This South Africa trail into Rural Lesotho horseback experience is incredibly unique. Lesotho’s remote and rugged countryside is spectacular and gives that primal thrill of discovering the unknown. Experience a country which must have given birth to the very spirit of adventure and excitement.
After breakfast at 07:30 we will take you to meet the horses and we allocate a horse to you that will be your steed for the duration of the trail. We will saddle up, mount and be ready to hit the trail at 09:00. Today’s ride is a scenic one riding amongst working farms in the Bushmans Nek area. Itis a 6 hour ride amid stunning scenery. On arrival at Silver streams we will enjoy Sundowners at the chalet around a log fire followed by supper.
After a hearty breakfast we will feed the horses and be in the saddle at 09:00 to hit the trail up Bushmans Nek Pass up into Lesotho. We clear passport control on the South African side and ride up into Sehlabathebe National Park in Lesotho. This is breath taking scenery and you will be in awe
of your surroundings and the wide open spaces. Today’s ride is a 6 hour ride to Sehlabathebe National park Lodge which will be our base of operations for the remainder of this Trail. On arrival at the Lodge we will settle in and then take a wander around the National Park for those that wish to.
Today after breakfast we will ride to a local gorge where you will see Bushmen paintings in caves and shepherds huts built into caves. The awesome sandstone formations will blow your mind.
Swimming in crystal clear rivers and waterfalls is refreshing and invigorating, and highly recommended for those that wish to. A picnic lunch will be served in the gorge.
This is a rest day for horses and riders. For those that wish to, we will walk and explore Sehlabathebe National Park with a guide and we will learn about the flora, fauna and history of the Park. On this tour we will also see Bushmen paintings in caves. Cultural activities will be arranged for the afternoon at the Lodge Cultural Centre.
Today we ride to Ha Semanyane village so you can experience a living /working Basotho village. On arrival we will visit the local shebeen (pub) so you can sample the local beer, Maluti Lager. A horse show of the locals and their steeds will be put on for us at the Project. The Basotho folk are very proud of their horses and take these shows seriously.
After breakfast we will be in the saddle at 09:00 for the return ride to Bushmans Nek Border Post. We ride back a different route to the one we rode up on. The scenery is breath taking on our descent down the Mountain. This is a 6 hour ride back.
